A charming Laughing Buddha statue carved from a piece of deep purple Rhodonite.
The Laughing Buddha is known by many names; Budai, Pu-Tai, Pinyin or Cloth Sack Buddha due to his common depiction carrying a sack containing few possessions. Budai in folklore is admired for his happiness and wisdom of contentment. One belief popular in folklore maintains that rubbing his belly brings wealth, good luck, and prosperity.
Rhodonite is well known among collectors for its beautiful pink and red colors but can be commonly found in deeper purple tones. Rhodonite often has black manganese oxide veins running through a specimen, giving it the distinct appearance of pink with black crisscrossing lines and flower-like formations throughout. Rhodonite is also a minor gemstone, being cut and polished into cabochons, beads, and other ornamental objects. Rhodonite is also a minor ore of the element manganese in manganese deposits.
