This listing is for 1 of the 2 pictured, very well preserved clam fossils from the Taupo area in the middle of New Zealand's North Island.
Most of New Zealands fossil record is comprised of marine shells which were buried by sediment on the sea floor. From small filter-feeders like clam or mollusk to coral, sponges and micro-fossils.
Although very rare, fossils of even larger creatures such as Arthropods, Fish and Reptiles are also included in the Fossil record.
