Pure topaz is colorless and transparent but is usually tinted by impurities which results in the many color variations of this mineral. Topaz is a favorite gemstone for jewelers due to its hardness and resistance to chemical solvents.
Blue topaz is rare in nature and almost always light in color. All Blue Topaz used in jewelry has been irradiated and heat treated to enhance the color.
This particular specimen displays a faint blue color, meaning that if it were to be irradiated no doubt it would be a particularly vibrant blue color.
