This fossil lobster- Thalassina anomala, from Australia, dates from the Holocene -Epoch 1.

Commonly known as the mud or mangrove lobster.

This specimen is from Gunn Point, Northern Territory, Australia.

These arthropods are always found encased in a very hard matrix of mud. It is thought that they died in their burrows during a catastrophic event. Only careful preparation exposes the fossil and its anatomy.
