This is a HUGE Iron Meteorite specimen from the Campo del Cielo ("Field of Heaven") site situated on the border between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, 1000 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This Museum Quality specimen is one of the most attractive pieces we have seen, with its massive split & mangled body, with "thumbprints" all over, attesting to the forces this thing must have endured coming through Earth's Atmosphere some 4000 to 5000 years ago...
The crater field covers an area of 20 kilometers and contains at least 26 craters, the largest being 91 meters. The craters' age is estimated at 4,000-5,000 years. The craters, containing iron masses, were reported in 1576, but were already well known to the aboriginal inhabitants of the area.
